Current VAT Rates in Germany
By the year 2025, the existing VAT rates will be revised in Germany to the following, and that too by official EU guidelines:
| Type | Rate | Applies To |
|---|---|---|
| Standard VAT | 19% | General goods & services |
| Reduced VAT | 7% | Food, books, medical supplies, and cultural events |
| Zero VAT | 0% | Exports, intra-EU supplies, international transport |
- Gross Price = Net Price + ( Net Price × VAT Rate)
Example:
If the net price is €1,000 and the VAT rate is 19%,
- VAT = 1,000 × 0.19= €190
- Gross Price=1,000+190=€1,190
Net Price = Gross Price / 1 + VAT Rate
Examples of VAT Calculation
| Example | Net Price (€) | VAT (19%) (€) | Gross (€) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Laptop | 1,000 | 190 | 1,190 |
| Book (7%) | 50 | 3.50 | 53.50 |
| Restaurant Meal (19%) | 120 | 22.80 | 142.80 |
| Medicine (7%) | 200 | 14 | 214 |
